The Elysian Singers perform pieces by Arvo Pärt

On March 8th chamber choir The Elysian Singers perform music by Arvo Pärt in St. Peter’s Church, London. Conductor is Matthew Greenall, the guest conductor and founder of the well-known choir. The concert program called Back to the Future includes two pieces by Arvo Pärt: Littlemore Tractus (2000) and Berliner Mass (1990/2002), both for mixed choir and organ.

In addition to pieces by Pärt the program consists of spiritual contemporary music by Judith Weir and Gabriel Jackson. The Audience can hear Vertue and A True Blue Dream of Sky by Judith Weir, also A Prayer of King Henry VI, Edinburgh Mass and Laudate Pueri by Gabriel Jackson. Laudate Pueri will be premiered in London.

Matthew Greenall refers to Arvo Pärt, Judith Weir and Gabriel Jackson as three of the most inspiring composers of choral music writing today. He sets Arvo Pärt apart from his younger colleagues, describing him as being deep, almost mystic sensibility to text and a radical simplicity.

Founded in 1986, The Elysian Singers have gained acknowledgement by extensive commissioning of new music. The choir premieres regularly works by British composers.
