On December 16 at 2 pm, Tallinn City Theatre presents new CD „Valter Ojakäär. Songs“. This current CD comprises songs from Estonian composer Valter Ojakäär, performed by Tallinn City Theatre’s actors Hele Kõrve, Evelin Pang, Indrek Ojari, Mart Toome, Veiko Tubin and Andero Ermel with Estonian Dream Big Band and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. The CD is produced by Riina Roose (music director of Tallinn City Theatre).
Valter Ojakäär has achieved recognition as a composer, musician, band leader, music publicist and jazz theorist. He is known with his vocal music at most, but he has written music from orchestral works to dais music. In 1956, he graduated from the Tallinn Conservatoire in composition class of Mart Saar and Heino Eller. He has played clarinet and saxophone in many ensembles and orchestras, and has been concertmaster of Estonian Television and Radio dais orchestra, and leader of the big band named Kalev. He has introduced jazz and dais music in his popular radio and television programs, and has published books and articles about the history of Estonian pop music.
