Composer Erkki-Sven Tüür celebrates his 60th birthday on October 16. The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, and chamber choir Collegium Musicale will give portrait concerts to mark this anniversary. All the concerts will be live broadcasted on Klassikaraadio.

On October 4, the concert titled „Mythos“ at the Estonia Concert Hall features the ENSO with Olari Elts conducting. They will perform Tüür’s Symphony No. 9 „Mythos“ as well as Estonian premieres of „Phantasma“ for symphony orchestra and „Solastalgia“ for symphony orchestra and piccolo flute. Vincent Cortvrint will join the orchestra as a soloist.

On October 20, Collegium Musicale under Endrik Üksvärav will present a programme of a cappella choral music by Tüür at Tallinn Philharmonic Society House of Blackheads, including „Missa brevis“, „Triglosson trishagion“, „Taandujad“, „Rändaja õhtulaul“, and „Kui vaikivad päevased tuuled“.

On October 24, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra with Kaspar Mänd conducting and Triin Ruubel as violin soloist will perform Tüür’s „Lighthouse“, Violin Concerto No. 2 „Angel’s Share“, „The Path and the Traces“, and „Flamma“ at the Concert Hall of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
 
The music by Tüür will be also performed in Zurich, Geneva, and London during October.
  • On October 18, „Rändaja õhtulaul“ („The Wanderer’s Evening Song“) for mixed choir will be performed by BBS Singers at Milton Court in London.
  • „De Profundis“ for symphony orchestra will receive its Swiss premiere by Orchestra of the Zurich University of the Arts and Orchestra of the Geneva University of Music under Olari Elts at Victoria Hall in Geneve on October 20 and at Tonhalle Maag concert hall in Zurich on October 21.
  • On October 30 and 31 as well as on November 1, Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra with Paavo Järvi will perform „Sow the Wind…” and chamber music piece „Walk on the Rope“ at Tonhalle Maag concert hall.
Erkki-Sven Tüür studied percussion and flute at the Tallinn Georg Ots Music High School and composition with Prof. Jaan Rääts at the Tallinn Conservatoire. He also took private lessons from Prof. Lepo Sumera in Tallinn and developed his skills in the field of electronic music in Karlsruhe. Erkki-Sven Tüür started his musical activity in the second half of the seventies as a leader of a progressive rock bänd In Spe. In the second half of the eighties he entered Estonian musical life as a professional composer. Since 1992, Tüür is a freelance composer, his works are primarily commissioned by world-renowned performers and are frequently premiered abroad before reaching the audience in home. His music is being played regularly by symphony orchestras worldwide in prestigious concert halls.
