Pianist Marko Martin will be a soloist in front of the Vaasa City Orchestra

On September 16, pianist Marko Martin, one of the outstanding pianist in Estonia, will perform with the Vaasa City Orchestra conducted by Esa Heikkilä at Vaasa City Hall. Martin will play Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor by Sergey Rachmaninov. The program of the orchestra’s season opening concert also includes Symphony No. 9 in e minor From the New World by Antonín Dvořák.

Marko Martin graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music with Peep Lassmann and continued at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Professor Joan Havill. He has participated in the master classes of Eric Heidsieck, Dominique Merlet, Sequeira Costa, Leon Fleisher, Dmitri Bashkirov and Murray Perahia. Marko Martin has received acknowledgements at more than 20 competitions for pianists. Since 2002, Martin is teaching piano at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Marko Martins favorite composers are Johannes Brahms and Franz Liszt, his wide-ranging repertoire includes about 20 instrumental concertos and incorporates next to classics also Estonian authors (Eduard Tubin, Rudolf Tobias, Heino Eller, Arvo Pärt). Martin has recorded music for BBC, CBC, Estonian Radio and has released 2 CD-s with the works of Franz Schubert (Abbas Records, 1998) and Ferenc Liszt (Arktos, 2002).
