Monika-Evelin Liiv is the first Estonian Singer at Covent Garden

Young Estonian mezzo soprano Monika-Evelin Liiv (28) is the first Estonian singer on the stage of London Royal Opera House. On January 14 she made her début as Flora Bervoix in Verdi’s opera "La traviata" (main parts were sung by Anna Netrebko (Violetta), Jonas Kaufmann (Alfredo) and Dmitry Hvorostovsky (Germont)) in which she sings all dozen performances until February 14. At the same time she sings in the role of Second Lady in Mozart’s "Die Zauberflöte" (January 28 – February 27). She will also understudy Olga ("Eugene Onegin"), Mercédès ("Carmen") and Dryad ("Ariadne auf Naxos"). Monika-Evelin Liiv was selected by the Jette Parker Young Artists’ Programme and joined Royal Opera via JPYAP in September 2007. On February 16, Liiv as the Young Artist, will participate in Clore Studio’s open rehearsal for preparing a main house production “Die Zauberflöte” with JPYAP member, Bulgarian assistant director Vera Petrova. On February 29 she will prepare the role of Olga for "Eugene Onegin" in programme "Insight Evening".

Monika-Evelin Liiv graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn under prof. Mati Palm in 2007. She has performed at the Estonian National Opera and at the Finnish National Opera 2003-2007.
