Liina Žigurs

Violist Liina Žigurs graduated from the Tallinn Music High School in 1995, studying violin with Ivi Tivik and viola with Maris Uffert. She continued viola studies at the Estonian Academy of Music, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in 1998 in the viola class of Maris Uffert and completing her Master’s degree under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Bobrovsky in 2003. She has developed her skills with Mikhail Zemtsov and has participated in masterclasses of Fjodor, Máté Szücs, and Wolfgang Kloss.

Since 1998, Liina Žigurs is a member of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra’s viola section and since 2004 she holds the position of Associate Principal Viola. She has also played with various orchestras, such as the Pärnu City Orchestra, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Nordic Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra, the 21st Century Orchestra, the Hortus Musicus Academic Orchestra, the Narva City Orchestra, the Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta, the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the Residentieorkest The Hague and the International Bachakademie Stuttgart Youth Orchestra.

Liina Žigurs is also active as a chamber musician. She has appeared with such renowned Estonian musicians as pianists Nata-Ly Sakkos, Irina Zahharenkova, Kadri-Ann Sumera and Kristiina Rokashevich, clarinetists Marten Altrov, Vello Sakkos, and Toomas Vavilov, violinist Triin Ruubel-Lilleberg, viola player and violinist Andres Kaljuste, cellists Andreas Lend, Indrek Leivategija and Theodor Sink, double bass players Mati Lukk and Regina Udod, harpist Ivàn Pragado Poveda, flutist Maria Luisk and many others.

In 1998–2002, Liina Žigurs taught viola at the Tallinn Music High School. She is a member of the Pärnu Music Festival team and coordinates the Järvi Academy String Courses.

Since 2019, Liina Žigrus is also interested in painting. Her paintings have been exhibited at several places in Tallinn and Keila.
