Maila Laidna

Maila Laidna is a pianist and an active chamber musician.

Maila Laidna has graduated cum laude from the master's program of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre majoring in piano and chamber music, taught by Tanel Joamets and Prof. Matti Reimann, respectively. In 20132014, Maila completed her education at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Vigo (Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo). She is currently studying in the EMTA chamber ensemble doctoral program (supervisors are Prof. Matti Reimann, Mati Mikalai, and Prof. Kristel Pappel).

Maila has performed successfully at several competitions: she won third place at the chamber music competition held at EMTA (2011) and first place at the piano competition at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Vigo in Spain (2014). She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at the piano festival held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and at the Spanish international festival Forum Musikae”. In addition, she has participated in the Järvi Academy with ERSO.

Since 2013, Maila has been playing in a piano duo with Tiiu Sisask. In 2015, the duo won III place at the XXV Roma International Piano Competition. In 2019, the duo won first place at the Maria Judina competition in St. Petersburg and second prize at the chamber music competition in Philadelphia. In 2021, the piano duo won a gold medal at the III International Piano Competition of the World Piano Teachers' Association in Finland.

Since 2016, Maila has been playing in a trio with clarinetist Soo-Young Lee and violinist Miina Laanesaare (Ensemble Auftakt). In the same year, they performed the Estonian premiere of Alban Berg's work Adagio (the second part of the Kammerkonzert) in Estonia. In 2019, Ensemble Auftakt took first place in the chamber ensemble category at the IV Danubia Talents International Competition held in Budapest, and in 2021, third place at the Krakow International Music Competition Opus 2021. In the spring of 2022, she won the first prize at the Clara Wieck Schumann competition and the finalist diploma at the 10º Concurso internacional de música de cámara Antón García Abril” held in Spain.
