On November 24, St. Cecilia Concert will take place at Heptonstall Church, West Yorkshire, where the chamber choir The Hepton Singers will performing an atmospheric concert of mainly Russian music. The concert’s centrepiece will be a group of four works by Galina Grigorjeva, from her composition On Leaving (1999), sung in Russian. Says musical director Alison West, “The influence of the music of the Russian Orthodox Church, and of earlier Russian composers such as Rachmaninov, shines through Grigorjeva’s compositions, which are works of exquisite beauty and emotional depth.”
The evening will also feature works by Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Grechaninov, Estonian minimalist Arvo Pärt and Kerry Andrew.
