Conductor Risto Joost performed first time at Euroradio

On February 14, young Estonian conductor Risto Joost (27) made his début at Euroradio with the Swedish Radio Choir at Stockholm Berwaldhallen, conducting Sergei Rachmaninov’s „All-Night Vigil“ („Vsenoshchnoye bdeniye“). The concert was arranged by „Serge Rachmaninoff Foundation“ and took place with presence of Foundation’s President, Rachmaninov’s grandson Alexandre Rachmaninoff. Swedish radio broadcasted the concert in its own programme P2 (including 24 local stations in Sweden), live broadcast was made also for Estonian Radio and Polish Radio. Via European Broadcasting Union Dutch, Austrian, Canadian and Danish radios also ordered the recording of this programme.

Risto Joost studied at the Estonian Music Academy, thereafter in Vienna and now at Stockholm Royal Music College under Jorma Panula. Since 2002 he is founder and artistic director of Ensemble Voces Musicales, from 2003 he sings in Paul Hillier’s „Theatre of Voices“, performs widely as countertenorist. Risto Joost has conducted premieres at Estonian Music Days and other Estonian festivals. In 2006 he was a finalist at the Eric Ericson’s International Competition for young choral conductors in Stockholm, conducting also Swedish Radio Choir.
