French pianist plays Estonian piano music in Ukraine

In the near future, pianist Nicolas Horvath will give several concerts in Ukraine, where he plays also Estonian music.

On February 14, Horvath’s recital in Ukrainian Composers’ Union Hall presents music by Jaan Rääts (Marginal No. 1, Op. 65, Estonian Prelude F sharp Major, Op. 80, Radio 4, Op. 124 and Piano Sonata No. 10, Op. 114), as well as music of Philip Glass, Aleksandr Skriabin and Nobuo Uematsu. Concert is part of the III International Festival „Dynasty“.

On February 15, 9-hour marathon concert The Night of Minimal Piano in Kyiv will take place in Kyiv House of Architects. Program includes piano music of Jaan Rääts (Prelude No. 4, Op. 33, different bagatelles Op. 50, Marginals No.1 and 19, Op. 65), Arvo Pärt (For Alina, Variations For The Healing Of Arinushka), Mihkel Kerem (different preludes) and Liis Viira (Nõva Vision). Ohter authors at this marathon concert are Alvin Curran, Philip Glass, La Monte Young, Jean Catoire, William Susman, Lawrence Ball, John Cage, John Luther Adams, John Psathas, Terry Jennings, Denis Johnson, Jeroen van Veen, Simeon ten Holt, Morteza Shirkoohi, Julius Eastman and Douwe Eisenga. Concert starts on February 15 at 11 pm and ends next norning at 8 am. Rääts's Piano Sonata No. 10 and Radio 4, Op. 124 can be listened also on February 17 at Horvaths's solo recital at same place - House of Architects.

On February 19, Horvath together with chamber orchestra Kiev Soloists makes an Ukrainian premiere of Arvo Pärt’s Lamentate (2002). Concert will take place in the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko, also in the framework of the festival „Dynasty“.
 


Nicolas Horvath has studied in Monaco's Academie de Musique Prince Rainier III and École Normale de Musique de Paris. He is the laureate of many international competitions including Fukuoka, New York, Yokohama, Lyon, Luigi Nono (Torino), Franz Liszt (Japan), Aleksandr Skriabini (Paris). Extremely involved in contemporary music, Horvath has made the national or world premieres of pieces of more than 30 composers. Recently he graduated from the Conservatoire de Paris in electroacoustic music with Gino Favotti (2006) and Christine Groult (2008).
