Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir’s concerts in August

In August, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir with Paul Hillier conducting has in all five concerts in Estonia and in Great Britain. Three concerts in Estonia will be at the Tallinn XII International Organ Festival, the program includes Arvo Pärt’s organ and choral music. The choir will also perform at the Edinburgh International Festival and at BBC Proms in Great Britain. The porgrams include works by Veljo Tormis, Toivo Tulev, Arvo Pärt and Vespers by Sergey Rachmaninov.

From August 7 to 9, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will give three concerts in Tartu, Pärnu and Tallinn at the Tallinn XII International Organ Festival. Also organist Christopher Bowers-Broadbent will participate. „Veni creator”, „Anthem of St. John the Baptist”, „Da pacem Domine”, „Littlemore Tractus”, „Salve Regina”, Estonian premiere of „Morning Star” will be performed among Pärt’s choral compositions, „Annum per annum” and „Mein Weg hat Gipfel und Wellentäler” among the organ compositions. Besides the music by Pärt, the program also includes Tulev’s vocal piece „Summer Rain”. Concerts will take place on August 7 at 9 pm in St. Peter’s Church, Tartu, August 8 at 8 pm in St. Elisabeth’s Church, Pärnu and August 9 at 8 pm in St. John’s Church, Tallinn.
English organist and composer Christopher Bowers-Broadbent and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir with Paul Hillier conducting have made close collaboration for years in interpreting Arvo Pärt’s music in Estonia and abroad (England, Italy, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, USA). Jointly recorded CD Da Pacem with Arvo Pärt’s music (Harmonia Mundi) was Grammy award winner in 2006.

The concerts are produced in cooperation with Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert.

On August 11, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will perform at the classical music, opera, theatre and dance festival in Edinburgh. The concert will take place in Usher Hall at 8 pm. Besides the works by Jean Sibelius and Eric Bergman, the program also inludes St. John's Day Songs by Tormis, „Summer Rain”, „Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice” by Tulev and „Dopo la vittoria”, „Magnificat” and „Nunc dimittis” by Pärt.

On August 12, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will sing in London at BBC Proms. The concert will take place in Royal Albert Hall at 10.20 pm. The program consists of Vespers by Rachmaninov. The choir will participate for the second time at the biggest classical music festival in the world.
