Estonian Music Days Festival

 
From 5 to 11 April, Estonian Music Days Festival will be held for the 35th time in Tallinn. This year the festival focuses on symphonic large-scale works. The program of the festival features sevaral premieres of new works: Toivo Tulev’s Lamentations for soloists, mixed choir and chamber orchestra, Margo Kõlars’s Through the Valley of Shadows for soloists, choir and symphony orchestra, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s symphony De Profundis (Estonian premiere), Monika Mattiesen’s meng-leng-geleng for reciter, orchestra and live-electronics, Mirjam Tally’s Déjà vu for harp and string orchestra (new version), Liis Viira’s A Star Silence for symphony orchestra, Märt-Matis Lill’s The Pressure of Polaris for voice and orchestra, Helena Tulve’s Heartland for piano and orchestra, Tõnis Kaumann’s Three Tails for orchestra, Páll Ragnar Pálsson’s Foghorns in Bright Daylight for brass ensemble, Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes’s work Betweenland in cooperation with video artist Tarvi Hanno Varres, Maria Kõrvits’s Ripples in the Sky for string quartet, Pärt Uusberg’s Miniatures for string quartet and Mirjam Tally’s Vortex for big ensemble.

New works will be performed alongside music by Heino Eller, Eino Tamberg, Arvo Pärt, Raimo Kangro, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Gustav Ernesaks, Eugen Kapp and Alo Põldmäe.

The program of the festival offers 12 concerts (including two concerts of composition pupils and students), taking place at St. Nicholas’s Church, Seaplane Harbour, Kanuti Gildi Hall, Estonia Concert Hall and elsewhere. These concerts will feature Estonian National Symphony Orchesta, Vanemuise Symphony Orchestra, Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orcgestra, Estonian Phuilharmonic Chamber Choir, ensemble Cyberstudio, Silver Brass, Tartu Sting Quartet, Estonian National Symphony Orchesta’s ensemble, Estonian National Opera Choirand several soloists. The program also offers meetings with composers Margo Kõlar, Märt-Matis Lill, Liis Viira, Erkki-Sven Tüür and Helena Tulve.

Estonian Music Days Festival is organised by Estonian Composers’ Union. The artistic directors of the concert are Ülo Krigul and Timo Steiner.
