Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre jubilee events in September

In September, the main events of the 90th anniversary of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre will take place. Among the various concerts, festivals, conferences and remembrance events, one of the densest jubilee events will be an open day of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre called Sonorous House on Tuesday, September 15. This day brings together ceremonies, free concerts and presentations.

 

On September 15 at 11:30 am, in front the G. Ots Music School, the rector of the EAMT Peep Lassmann will have a speak and a memorial will be placed in the location of the first building of the Tallinn Conservatoire, the predecessor of the EAMT.
At 11:45 am, a procession led by the EAMT Brass Band, moves over the Vabaduse Square to the music academy (Rävala 16), at which the opening event of Sonorous House with some musical performances will take place at 12 pm in the location of the future EAMT Concert Hall.
A short, anniversary events introducing briefing for journalists is held at 12:10–12:25. This is followed by presentation of double CD, released in occasion of 90th anniversary of EAMT, and a concert by the music students in the Chamber Hall of EAMT.
From 1 to 3 pm, a number of EAMT departments are open for visitors, including electronic music studio, library, jazz and opera studios, the Music Education Institute, instruments repair service, practicing rooms for solo instruments and chamber music.
At 13:30–17:45, various sound installations are presented in the electronic music studio and at 6 pm, concert of Estonian electro-acoustic music takes place in Chamber Hall. In addition to music by Rauno Remme, Lepo Sumera and Hans-Gunter Lock, a new work by Margo Kõlar will be premiered.

On September 23 in chamber hall of the Tallinn Music High School in Kivimäe, the students of the Tallinn Music High School and the Esonian Academy of Music will hold a concert of Estonian contemporary composers’ early creations. The concert is organized by the Student Union and Concert Agency of the EAMT in cooperation with the Tallinn Music High School.

On September 23–26, the annual EAMT Autumn Festival will take place at the Tallinn High School of Music, Tallinn Kanut Guild Hall, Theater NO99 and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (www.ema.edu.ee/index.php?main=1273).

On September 26 and 27 the conference of the Association of Baltic Music Academies (ABAM) takes place in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. ABAM is a collaborative organization uniting music academies of Baltic Sea countries. The assocoation was set up in 1995 in order to organize the exchange of students and teachers, masterclasses, summer courses, orchestral projects and more. Attendees of the conference will include rectors of higher music education institutions from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, Israel, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Russia and Estonia. Since 2007, the president of ABAM is Peep Lassmann, the rector and piano Professor of EAMT.

On September 27 from 12 to 2 pm, remembrance candles will be ignited at cemeteries all over Estonia in memory of former teachers of EAMT. At 1 pm, a lunch concert will be held at the Concert Hall Estonia where ABAM Symphony Orchestra under conducting of Paul Mägi will perform Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten by Arvo Pärt and First Symphony by Gustav Mahler. At 4 pm in Concert Hall Estonia, the EAMT 90th anniversary concert and a festive ceremony will take place. In the evening, starting at 20, the alumni reunion will take place at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
