On the 27th of May 2005, the 75th birthday of Eino Tamberg, the forerunner of “new wave” in Estonian music of the 1960ies was celebrated. Tamberg is one of the outstanding symphonists in Estonian music, a composer with a flair for the theatrical, a romanticist and Estonian music’s bard of love. Music for orchestra and the stage occupy a central position in his work: he is the author of four symphonies, nine instrumental concertos and many works for the stage.
To honour the jubilee of Tamberg, the programme of Estonian Music Days Festival 2005 included the special evening at Estonian National Opera’s Winter Garden on the 13th of April dedicated to the Maestros music where premieres of “Dialogues” for cello and piano, Op. 13 and “Anthology of Love” for soprano, chamber ensemble and female choir, Op. 118 took place. Estonian National Opera presented the new production of Tamberg’s opera “Cyrano de Bergerac”.
On the 25th of May, at the Winter Garden of Estonian National Opera, Estonian Music Information Centre presented the new book “Sentimental Journey” on Eino Tamberg. In addition to biographical facts and list of works, the book includes thorough interview with the composer by Märt-Matis Lill, the review of Tamberg’s whole work by Evi Arujärv, overview of stage works by Raili Sule and CD with Tamberg’s music (selected by composer himself).
