Début of young conductor Mikk Murdvee in UK, London

Estonian young conductor and violinist Mikk Murdvee (27) made a début in United Kingdom, conducting Southbank Sinfonia at St. John's Church, Waterloo, London. The programme in the series ‘Rush Hour Concert’ included Tchaikovsky’s „Variations on a Rococo Theme“, Paul Hindemith’s „Trauermusik“ and Haydn’s Symphony No 104 'London'. Soloists were Stefan Hadjiev (cello) and Laura Sinnerton (viola). Southbank Sinfonia is Britain's newest orchestra, over 600 young players have applied to the orchestra since its launch in 2002.

Mikk Murdvee studied violin and conducting at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki till 2007. He is a grandson of legendary Estonian violinist and professor Vladimir Alumäe. Murdvee has conducted several orchestras in Finland and Estonia, opera and operetta performances in Finland, ballet performances in Estonian National Opera, from autumn 2007 he is a chief conductor of Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat in Helsinki. He also performs as a violinist and chamber musician.
