Concerts of Tobias String Quartet in Finland

On November 17 and 18, Tobias String Quartet (Maano Männi – violin, Harry Traksmann – violin, Toomas Nestor – viola, Aare Tammesalu – cello) will give two concerts in Vaasa, Finland. On November 17, the quartet will perform Arvo Pärt’s Fratres (1977), Petri Judin’s String Quartet and Jopseph Haydn’s String Quartet, Op. 76, No. 2 in D minor at Koivulahti (Kvevlax) Church at 7 pm. The next concert will take place on November 18 at Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art at 8 pm. The program also includes Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Ballet and an arrangement for string quartet of Concerto for Chamber Orchestra, Op. 16 (1987) by Jaan Rääts.

Concerts will take place in cooperation with the Embassy of Estonia in Finland and Association of Estonian Professional Musicians.

Tobias String Quartet, founded in 2000, has regularly given concerts in Estonia as well as abroad (Stockholm, Berlin, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Riga, Athens). The quartet’s first CD was released under the German label Erdenklang in 2003. For Estonian Radio Tobias String Quartet has recorded chamber music by Lepo Sumera, Veljo Tormis, Jaan Rääts, Heino Eller and Tõnis Kaumann. Their repertoire also includes masterpieces of the world’s quartet literature.

The quartet is named after Estonian composer Rudolf Tobias who composed the first string quartet in Estonian music literature.
