Composer Eino Tamberg died on December 24, 2010 in Tallinn. Tamberg was a grandee of Estonian music, one of the leader figures of the new generation of composers in 1950ies, prime symphonic composer, romanticist and bard of love.
Eino Tamberg’s oeuvre consists of more than 130 opuses in many genres, from which the important part is formed by orchestral and stage music. The topic thorough Tamberg’s works is love, also deep interest in literature and poetry is reflected in his music.
Eino Tamberg graduated from the Tallinn Conservatory in composition under Prof. Eugen Kapp in 1953. He worked as a music director at Tallinn Drama Theatre (1952–1953) and sound engineer in Estonian Radio (1953–1957). Since 1968, Tamberg was composition pedagogue in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Under his guidance, 31 composers have received the diploma in composition, including Raimo Kangro, Mari Vihmand, Toivo Tulev, Peeter Vähi, Margo Kõlar, Alo Mattiisen, Urmas Lattikas.
