I have often wondered how academic music can be joined together with the power and freshness of rhythmic music. One such examples for me would certainly be the cooperation between the guitar player and composer, Frank Zappa, and the Ensemble Modern. I have also been deeply touched by the works of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, led by the guitarist and composer, John McLaughlin. This certainly does not mean that we should copy what has already been done. The important thing is to fix a common starting point from the perspective of the aesthetics of music.
