Baroque Musique Festival 2009 starts today

 

This year Baroque Music Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary, the concerts are held from January 30 to February 7 in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and Jõhvi.
The concert programs include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Salieri, Heinrich Schütz, Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi, Luigi Boccherini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Arvo Pärt, also early music from Spain and other countries.
The festival features not only Estonian professional groups (Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Estonian National Male Choir, Hortus Musicus) but also several top baroque music interpreters from all over the world - including vocal ensemble Huelgas Ensemble from Belgium, José Miguel Moreno (vihuela, baroque lute) from Spain, Patrick Demenga (cello) from Switzerland etc. Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir with conductor Frieder Bernius will perform a program of Domenico Scarlatti and Heinrich Schütz. The traditional part of the festival is the grandiose vocal symphonic opening concert and the festive Vivaldi Gala brings the jubilee to the end.
The artistic director, as well as the founder of Barock Music Festival is Andres Mustonen.
