Anatoli Garshnek 90

On November 17, 90 years have passed since the birth of Estonian composer and pedagogue Anatoli Garshnek. His compositions have closely been related to his birthplace, traditional music of Setumaa. His oeuvre comprises music in different genres: one opera, numerously vocal symphonic music, symphonies, chamber and choral music. Since 1954, he worked as a pedagogue in Tallinn State Conservatoire (since 1986 professor) almost till death. Among his students there are Anti Marguste, Hans Hindpere, Raimond Lätte, Enn Vetemaa, Mati Kuulberg, René Eespere and others.

Garshnek studied composition at Tallinn State Concervatoire with Professor Heino Eller. In 1950–1953 he improved his skills at Moscow Conservatoire with Professor S. Bogatyryov.
