Peeter Süda 125

On January 30, 125 years have passed since the birth of composer and organist Peeter Süda (1883-1920). On that occasion several jubilee events take place. On January 26 at 11 a.m. special exposition of Peeter Süda’s archive will be opened in Estonian Theatre and Music Museum. On January 26 at 12 p.m. organist Ene Salumäe will give a concert „Half and Hour With Organ Music” in Tallinn Dome Church and January 28 at 6 p.m. organist Toomas Trass will give a memorial concert „Peeter Süda 125” in Tallinn Church of the Holy Ghost.

Being an excellent organ virtuoso, Peeter Süda wrote mainly organ music. His seven completed opuses have an incomputable value in Estonian organ music. Composer's only choral work „Flax Puller” is the first choral fugue in Estonian music based on folklore and belongs to Estonian choral music treasury till now. Beside his own compositions, Süda made organ transcriptions of the works by Liszt, Mozart, Bach and Wagner. Music Museum founded in 1934, was built upon Süda’s heritage and the collection of Peeter Süda is the “heart” of today’s Estonian Theatre and Music Museum.
