Estonian musicians in Moscow: anniversary concert at the Novaya Opera and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra at Haydn-festival

First time in the history the celebration of anniversary of Estonian Republic took place in Moscow with a concert on March 12. The orchestra of the Novaya Opera, led by their chief conductor Eri Klas, soloists Heli Veskus (soprano), Marko Matvere (baritone), Indrek Vau (trumpet) and folklore ensemble Ro-Toro performed Estonian symphonic music of Heino Eller, Eduard Tubin, Villem Kapp and Eino Tamberg as well as folk music, songs by Raimond Valgre and operetta arias. Also remembering of Georg Ots, excerpts from the new film accompanied the performances. Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet, Estonian Ambassador in Russia Marina Kaljurand, Russian vice minister of Foreign Affaires were attending this evening.

Conductor Eri Klas is the music director of Moscow Novaya Opera from 2006. In spring season he will conduct Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Donizetti’s L’elisir d’Amore, Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and CavPag of Mascagni/Leoncavallo. The performance of Donizetti’s opera has been nominated for a prize at the Golden Masque theatre festival.

On March 16 in Moscow Tretyakov Gallery Vrubel Hall Tallinn Chamber Orchestra played at the opening concert of IXth International Music Festival Dedication. The festival is dedicated to Franz Joseph Haydn. The conductor and cello soloist at this concert was the artistic director of the festival Alexander Rudin. The program included Kozheluh’s Symphony in G minor, Wagenseil’s Cello Concerto in A, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 45 Farewell. The same program was performed by Alexander Rudin also in Tallinn on March 1.
