Ain Anger sings recital at Musikverein Vienna with a première of Songs by Ülo Krigul

On April 1, basso Ain Anger, the soloist of Vienna Staatsoper, will give a recital at Musikverein’s Gläserner Saal in series Lied / Bühne. Ain Anger’s partner at this concert is the pianist Jendrik Springer. The program includes a première of Three Songs on Poetry by Indrek Hirv by Estonian composer Ülo Krigul, a new piece that Ain Anger commissioned specially for this evening. Ülo Krigul is in Wien at the concert to hear the premiere. The program also includes Jacques Ibert’s Chansons de Don Quichotte, Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death and five songs by Franz Schubert.

Ain Anger started as a soloist at the Estonian National Opera in 1996, from 2002 to 2004 he was a soloist at the Leipzig Opera and from 2004 in Staatsoper of Vienna. This season he sings in nine Staatsoper productions in co-operation with famous partners, conductors and stage directors: as Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Orest in Richard Strauss’ Elektra, Veit Pogner in Wagner’s Meistersinger (conductor Christian Thielemann), Daland in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, Titurel in Parsifal, in new production of Wagner’s Die Walküre as Hunding (conductor Franz Welser-Möst), in June also as Philippe II in Verdi’s Don Carlo (in French), and in Staatsoper’s Asia-Tour as Bartolo in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. On July 22, Ain Anger also performs with solo recital at Saaremaa Opera Days; on July 25, he participates at gala concert.
