Paavo Järvi & Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich launch Mahler cycle with Symphony No. 5 on Alpha Classics

On 14 March, Alpha Classics releases Paavo Järvi and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich’s new recording of Mahler Symphony No. 5, marking the start of a project that has been years in the making. Long admired for his powerfully intimate interpretation of Mahler’s symphonies, Paavo Järvi waited for the right moment to record the complete cycle – both in his musical journey and in his collaboration with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich.

Arvo Pärt Centre opened a new exhibition in the composer’s jubilee year

On 1 February, the Arvo Pärt Centre opened a new exhibition, Tintinnabuli – A World on Music Paper, that invites visitors on a long and contemplative journey into Arvo Pärt’s unique compositional style – tintinnabuli. Interactive book pages bring Arvo Pärt’s musical world to life through descriptions, images, animations and soundscapes. The exhibition is organised in honour of Arvo Pärt’s jubilee year and marks his 90th birthday.

The XXXVIII International Niguliste Organ Week, which runs from the first to the seventh of January, will feature evening concerts and a daily programme showcasing the finest works of medieval and early modern art, accompanied by music. Professor Andres Uibo is the festival’s organiser and artistic director.

Erkki-Sven Tüür's Oboe Concerto will be premiered today by Kalev Kuljus and NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra under the baton of Paavo Järvi

Erkki-Sven Tüür's Oboe Concerto "Desert Wind" will be premiered on November 14 and 15 in the Elbphilharmonie's Grand Hall in Hamburg. The soloist of the oboe concerto is Kalev Kuljus, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra is conducted by Paavo Järvi. The concert on November 15 will be broadcast live by NDR Kultur and Estonian Klassikaraadio.

Warner Classics Releases „Paavo Järvi – The Complete Recordings”

This month Warner Classics releases a box set of 30 CDs comprising Paavo Järvi’s complete catalogue on Virgin Classics, EMI and Erato, recorded between 1996 and 2015, plus a bonus CD of the Franck Symphony in D minor he made last September with Orchestre de Paris, of which he was Music Director from 2010–16.

International Contemporary Music Festival AFEKT begins

On October 30, the XXIII international contemporary music festival AFEKT begins, which this year focuses on transmediality in contemporary composition, highlightthing the multi-layered nature of music theatre. The festival honors the influential figures of modernism by celebrating the 150th anniversary of composer Arnold Schönberg and the 100th anniversary of Luigi Nono.

Estonian Sinfonietta opens its season with „The Gold of Vienna. The Masters and Marianna“

On Sunday, September 29th at 5 p.m., the Estonian Sinfonietta will begin its new season in the White Hall of the House of the Blackheads with music by renowned Viennese classicists Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven. The concert will also feature a premiere – for the first time in Estonia, the Sinfonia in C, composed over 300 years ago by the lady hailed as one of the most ingenious composers of her time, Marianna Martines, will be performed.

Austrian record label KAIROS released Age Veeroos’s album "Outlines of the Night"

Composer Age Veeroos’ album "Outlines of the Night" was released on July 15th under the Austrian record label KAIROS. The album features Veeroos’s chamber music compositions from 2019 to 2023.
