XVII Suure-Jaani Music Festival

From June 17 to 23, Suure-Jaani Music Festival will be held for the 17th time in Suure-Jaani. Grandiose music festival offers several concerts at Suure-Jaani St. John’s Church and Orthodox Church, Suure-Jaani Gymnasium, café Arturi Juures, Olustvere Castle and bakery, Hüpassaare bog island where the 11th Sunrise concert will take place and elsewhere. Additionally, Mart Saar Competition for singers, II Villem Kapp Composition Competition, Jaakko Kortekangas’s (Finnish National Opera) mastercourses for singers and nationwide spiritual song day on June 22 will be held, also Jaanus Siim’s photo exhibition about last festival will be opened.

This year the festival features among the others Mari-Liis Uibo (violin), Kristi Mühling (kannel), Aare Tammesalu (cello) and poet Indrek Hirv, laureates of Suure-Jaani Music Festival’s competitions, Avo Kittask (baritone) and Norman-Illis Reintamm (piano) from Canada, Arete Teemets (soprano), Anto Õnnis (tenor) and Pavlo Balakin (bass, Estonian National Opera) with chamber orchestra under the guidance of Toomas Vavilov, Oksana Sinkova (flute), Alina Sakalouskaya (mandoline) and Heiki Mätlik (guitar), Estonian National Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of Olari Elts, male choir Peresvet from Moscow, Taavo Remmel (double bass) and Aare Tammesalu, who will perform Mirjam Tally’s In the Copmany of Birds (Estonian premiere), Mati Palm (bass) and Martti Raide (piano), Bog Orchestra, Nadia Kurem (soprano), Indrek Vau (trumpet) and Estonian Youth Mixed Choir and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s opera class.

The nationwide spiritual song day on June 22 is dedicated to composer and organist Hugo Lepnurm to mark 100 years since his birth. Several events, including the performance of Lepnurm’s cantata Redemption in Christ (1955) and concert of Estonian National Male Choir conducted by Mikk Üleoja will be held during the day.

The artisitc director of the festival is Andres Uibo.
