Tiiu Sisask

Tiiu Sisask graduated from the Tallinn Music High School in 2005 in the piano class of Kersti Sumera. She continued her studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2009 and a master's degree in 2011 under the supervision of Prof Ivari Ilja. In 2016, he obtained her second master's degree in chamber ensemble from EAMT with Prof Matti Reimann. Since 2017, she is pursuing her doctoral studies at the EAMT with Mati Mikalai and Prof Kristel Pappel. Sisask furthered her education at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany with Prof Kalle Randalu (2007-2008) and has taken part in the master courses of Walter Blankenheim, Vera Gornostayeva, Gil Garburg, Arvo Pärt, etc.

Tiiu Sisask has participated in several competitions, in 2007 she won the 1st prize with the violinist Mari Targo in the chamber music competition of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (2007) and piano duo Tiiu Sisask and Maila Laidna won the 3rd prize in the international piano duo competition in Rome (2005). She has collaborated with singers Yin Jie, Sigrid Mutso, Anna Dytyna, Anu-Mari Uuspõld as well as with the Mixed Choir of the European Capital of Culture (conductor Veronika Portsmuth) and worked as a piano teacher and concertmaster in the Old Town Music School. She has performed as a soloist in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, and Germany.

Tiiu Sisask has worked with her father, the composer Urmas Sisask. She has premiered many of his works, which are entirely dedicated to and inspired by stars. Together they play concerts in Jäneda, Estonia where Urmas Sisask has founded a Musical Observatory Tower (situated on the Jäneda manor building). They performed together also at the annual meetings of the Estonian Amateur Astronomers Society. Tiiu Sisask has recorded Urmas Sisask’s music for Klassikaraadio (Estonian classical music station/Estonian Public Broadcasting Company) with the trumpet player Mart Kivi. In 2015, Tiiu Sisask took part in Urmas Sisask’s shamanist multimedia performance “Love of the Universe”.
