The 2nd International Conference CFME09 on "The Changing Face of Music Education" on April 23–25 at the Tallinn University

On April 23 to 25, the 2nd International Conference CFME09 on "The Changing Face of Music Education " takes place in Tallinn University.
The conference is led by musicologist, composer and lecturer at the Tallinn University Institute of Fine Arts – Gerhard Lock.
The main topic of this year conference is Music and Environment.

The keynote-speakers of the conference are outstanding music psychologist
John Sloboda (Keele University),
Mario Baroni (University of Bologna),
Pozzi Escott and Robert Cogan
(Boston New England Conservatory).

Mikko Anttila

(Finnish music education – lost?)


Antti Juvonen and Heikki Ruismäki

(The new possibilities of music technology in music education)


Edda Hvenekilde

(Alternative pedagogy in violin instruction: Shinichi Suzuki’s pedagogical ideas in practice)


Hans-Gunter Lock

(Introduction to a concept of teaching electronic music applying environmental thinking and practical creative approach)


Gerhard Lock

(Some preliminary concepts of graphical analysis/composition for musicians and non-musicians, Playing with different environments – concepts of spacial thinking in the music of Jüri Reinvere)


Kerri Kotta

(On Cross-Temporality in Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Opera „Wallenberg”). 

 

All lectures will be held in English with translation to Estonian and all events of the conference are free.

 

On Thursday, April 23 at 6 pm (Room P-324), Ääsmäe School’s children's choir, Norwegian violinists and Hindu and Tamil dancers will give performance.

 

On Friday, April 24, at 5.30 pm (Lai street 13, room L-208), a presentation-workshop and concert of American and Estonian contemporary music will take place with works by Pozzi Escott and Robert Cogan, as well as Helena Tulve’s „Vertige” for amplified piano and „Eskiis 02” by Mari Vihmand. Performers are Joan Heller (soprano), Jon Sakata and Jung Mi Lee (piano).
