Sten Heinoja

Sten Heinoja has studied piano at the Tallinn Music High School with Marju Roots (2010–2012). In 2015, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree cum laude from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Professor Ivari Ilja. In 2017, he received his Master’s degree from the London Royal College of Music.

He has participated in the piano masterclasses of Vanessa Latarche, Prof. Claudio Trovajoli, Prof. Eteri Anjaparidze, Lauri Väinmaa, and many others. In 2011, he was invited to participate in a masterclass of the most renowned pianists in England, Alasdair Beatson.

Sten Heinoja has successfully performed at several national and international competitions. He was awarded the 1st prize and several special prizes (including the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra) and scholarships at the 8th Estonian Piano Competition (2014), earned the finalist diploma at the Competition for Young Pianists in Jūrmala, Latvia (2010) and the diploma and a special prize at the Klaviermusik competition in Lithuania (2007). In 2016, Sten Heinoja won the popular TV competition Klassikatähed (Classical Stars) for young musicians organised by Estonian State Concert Institute Eesti Kontsert, radio station Klassikaraadio and Estonian Public Broadcasting. In 2013, he reached the top six and earned a diploma at the competition held at the annual reunion of the Lions Club in Turkey. Additionally, he won with violinist Linda-Anette Suss the 1st prize and special prizes at the international youth chamber music competition-festival In Corpore (2015).

As a soloist, Sten Heinoja has appeared with many symphony orchestras, such as the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Tallinn Music High School Symphony Orchestra, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Järvi Academy Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Tel Aviv Opera Symphony Orchestra and has collaborated with such conductors as Mihhail Gerts, Paul Mägi, James Feddeck, Olari Elts, Risto Joost, Alexei Izmirliev, Eimear Noone, Andres Mustonen, and others. In recent years, he has collaborated with the Florida Lakes Symphony Orchestra in the USA, with whom he has performed the piano concertos of Edvard Grieg and Sergei Rachmaninov. He regularly gives solo recitals, appears with different chamber music ensembles and as an accompanist. Concert tours have taken him to Finland, Israel, China, the USA, UK, Canada, and elsewhere.
