Rein Roos

Rein Roos studied percussion at Tallinn School of Music under the guidance of Rein Saue (1970–1972). In 1977, he graduated from Tallinn State Conservatoire under the guidance of Matti Reimann and Kalju Terasmaa.

Since 1971, Rein Roos is a percussionist at the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (assistant principal since 1989). He has also worked at the Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra (1981–1991, 1995–1997) and participated in the work of NYYD Ensemble and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. He has premiered and recorded several new works by Estonian composers, e.g. Alo Põldmäe, Rein Rannap, Raimo Kangro, Urmas Sisask, and Toivo Tulev.

Rein Roos has taught percussions at Tallinn Music High School (1984–1999) and since 1994 he has been active in the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School and since 1999 the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (since 2004 docent). Rein Roos’ students are Andrus Lillepea, Kristjan Mäeots, Madis Metsamart, Kaspar Eisel, Anto Õnnis, Vambola Krigul, Anneli Kadakas, Lehari Kaustel, Hele-Riin Uib, Heigo Rosin, Aleksandra Anstal, Martin Sildos, and many others.

Rein Roos has been awarded the Acknowledgement Award of the Endowment for Music of the Culture Endowment of Estonia
