Marten Altrov

b. March 7, 1991, Tallinn

Marten Altrov started his clarinet studies at Nõmme Music School with Villu Musting. Later, he was taught by Madis Kari and Meelis Vind. In 2009–2011, he continued at Georg Ots Tallinn Music School with Vahur Vurm and Vello Sakkos. In 2016, he graduated from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the supervision of Hannes Altrov. At the moment he is studying in prof. Harry Mäki’s clarinet class at Sibelius Academy in Finland.

He has participated in various masterclasses with such great clarinet players as Fabio di Casola, Matthew Hunt, Claudio Conti, Juan Esteban Romero, Carina Washington and Selvadore Rähni.
Marten Altrov has won 1st prize at Eduards Medins International Competition Young Clarinettist in Rūjiena, Latvia (2006, 2007, 2008), 1st prize at competition-festival Renaissance in Armenia (2013) and 3rd prize at popular TV competition for young musicians Classical Stars in Estonia (2013).

Concert tours as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra member has taken Marten Altrov from Northern Norway to the South African Republic and from Palestine to France. He has taken part in the work of several orchestras both in Estonia and abroad: Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Festival Orchestra, Estonian Youth Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra, European Union Youth Orchestra, European Union Wind Orchestra, Orkester Norden. As a soloist, he has appeared with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra and Narva City Orchestra.

In addition, he plays in a world-music band called Abraham’s Café.
