Mari Poll performs Ligeti's Violin Concerto in London

On November 24 at 7.30, Mari Poll, young and talented Estonian violinist with RCM Contemporary Ensemble performs Ligeti’s Violin Concerto in concert hall of London Royal College of Music.

In April 2011 Mari premiered the Ligeti Violin Concerto in Estonia with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.

Mari Poll was born in 1987 in Estonia. She is currently studying under Prof. Radu Blidar at the Royal College of music in London, where she holds an ABRSM Scholarship.
Having begun her studies with Professors Tiiu Peäske and Ivi Tivik at Tallinn Music High School (1994-2004), Mari was awarded a place at Chetham’s School of Music to study with Prof. Jan Repko (2004-2006) with whom she continued her studies at the Royal College of Music, London.

Mari has achieved notable success in several competitions. In 2001 she won First Prize in the Estonian Young String Players Competition and in 2003 she was awarded the 2nd prize in ESTA National Young Violinist’s and Cellist’s Competition. In 2005 she was awarded 5th prize in “Kloster Schöntal” Competition in Germany. Mari won the MBF Music Education Award in 2006. In 2007 and 2008 she was a finalist in the RCM Concerto Competition. In 2007 she also reached the final of the Louis Sphor International Competition in Weimar, Germany where she was awarded a special prize. In 2008 Mari took part in the Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition and was a prizewinner at the H.Eller International Violin Competition in Tallinn. She also received the Hattori Foundation Junior Award.
This year Mari has been awarded a bursary from the Stephen Bell Charitable Trust and also won the Musicians Benevolent Fund Postgraduate Performance Award and a scholarship from the Martyn Musical Scholarship Fund. Recently Mari won 1st Prize at the Derek Butler London Prize, 3rd Prize at the Vibrarte International Violin Competition in Paris, RCM Concerto Competition and 1st Prize at the CSMUNICAJA Soloist Competition in Spain.

Mari has performed as a soloist with several orchestras including the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Haapsalu Chamber Orchestra, Tallinn Music High School Symphony Orchestra, Trinity Orchestra and Mozart Liverpool Orchestra. She has also given numerous recitals in Estonia, UK, Norway, Italy, France and USA.
