Leonora Palu

Leonora Palu is an active Estonian flutist, chamber musician and performer of Estonian contemporary music. Leonora Palu belongs to Repoo Ensemble, which performs contemporary music and experimental music theatre projects. Palu has often premiered new music of Estonian composers. She is also an artistic director of concert series „Vaata muusikat, kuula kunsti“ („Visualized music, listened art“)

Leonora Palu began her music studies at Pärnu Music School and studied at the music department of Pärnu Sütevaka Grammar School under the guidance of Anne Kann and Jaan Õun. She continued flute studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with associate professor Raivo Päeske on bachelor's degree and with professor Imants Sneibis on master's degree. In 2003 Palu developed her skills at Royal Conservatory of Brussels with professor Frank Hendrickx. In addition, Leonora Palu has participated in several masterclasses including Renate Greiss-Armin, Patrick Gallois, Moshe Epstein, Matti Helin and Maarika Järvi. Leonora Palu has won the 3rd prize at the National Wind Instrument Competition (2008) and the special prize at Free Improvisation Contest in Leipzig with Tauno Aints (2002).

Leonora Palu has worked at Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra (2001–2005) and participated in the work of Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. Currently, Palu works at Pärnu City Orchestra, often performing as a soloist. Palu is flute and free improvisation teacher at Pärnu and Pärnu-Jaagupi Music School and also acts as a producer and arranger of several musical projects. One of the most interesting projects is concert series „Vaata muusikat, kuula kunsti“ („Visualized music, listened art“), where Palu is an artistic director. Cooperation with several musicians including Jorma Toots and Kristo Käo has led her to competitions and festivals to Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Germany and Italy. Leonora Palu is also participator at Anto Pett's ensemble ProImpro and has given recitals in Estonia and Nordic Countries with it.
