Lembit Orgse

b. November 1, 1960 Tartu

Lembit Orgse began piano studies at the Nõmme Children`s Music School with Taivo Lesta. He continued studies at the Tallinn Music High School with Riina Gerretz, Reet Vanaselja and Bruno Lukk, graduating in 1979. In 1984, he graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatoire, where he had studied with Bruno Lukk and Kalle Randalu. In 1982, Orgse won the 2nd Prize at M. K. Čiurlionis International Competition of Pianists and Organists. In 1988–1990 Lembit Orgse continued post-graduate studies at the St. Petersburg State Conservatoire with Vladimir Nilsen, and since 2004, at the Estonian Academy of Music, where he gained a PhD under the guidance of Lilian Semper and Toomas Siitan.

Lembit Orgse has worked as a piano teacher at the Nõmme Children`s Music School (1982–1994). Since 1986, he teaches piano at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School, being the head of piano department since 1991. In 2002, he was the music school’s director’s locum. In 1988–2005, Lembit Orgse has worked also at the Tallinn Music High School, and since 1994, at the Estonian Academy of Music. Among his students have been now active Estonian pianists Marko Martin, Mati Mikalai, Piret Väinmaa, Katrin Lehismets and others.

Lembit Orgse has performed as a pianist and harpsichord player in Esonia, Sweden, Germany, Lithuania and Russia. He has participated at several festivals including Haapasalu Early Music Festival, Viljandi Early Music Festival, Tallinn Baroque Festival and Tallinn International Organ Festival. His versatile reperoire includes also wide range of baroque music. He has been the first performer of J. S. Bach`s French Suites and English Suites in Estonia (2005–2007), and has recorded J. S. Bach`s Harpsichord Concertos with Estonian Radio Chamber Orchestra.

Lembit Orgse has performed with several orchestras as Tallinn Baroque Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, being first performers of Peeter Vähi`s work Concerto Piccolo. As a basso continue player, Orgse has participated at performances of various large-scale works as J. S. Bach`s passions and cantatas, G. F. Händel`s oratorios and C. Monteverdi`s vespers. He has cooperated with several soloists as Olev Ainomäe, Neeme Punder, Pille Lill, Uku Joller, and such ensemles as Estonian Brass Quartet, Tallinn String Quartet and Hortus Musicus. Since 2005, Lembit Orgse is vice-chairman of the Estonian Piano Teachers Association and a member of the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians.
