Katariina Maria Kits

Katariina Maria Kits has studied violin with Marge Lille and Tiiu Peäske at the Tallinn Music High School, with Prof. Svetlana Makarova at the Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland (Haute École de Musique de Lausanne) and with Prof. Marina Chiche at the Trossingen University of Music in Germany (Musikhochschule Trossingen). Since 2018 Katariina Maria Kits is studying in the violin class of Prof. Arvo Leibur at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

Katariina Maria Kits has attended master classes led by Alf Richard Kraggerud, Robert Rozek, Detflef Hahn, Kurt Sassmanshaus, Guðný Guðmundsdóttir, Pavel Vernikov, Jan Repko, Nicolas Dautricourt, Kristof Barati, Florian Donderer, Petru Munteanu, Ulrike Danhofer, Peeter Laul, Balazs Fülei, Winfried Rademacher, and Francis Gouton.

Katariina Maria Kits is a multiple prizewinner both in national and international competitions. She has been awarded 2nd Prize (2005) and 1st Prize (2007) at the National Competition for Young String Players in Tallinn; 4th Prize at the International Russian Rotary Children’s Music Competition in Moscow (2006); 2nd Prize at the International Violin Competition „Remember Enescu“ in Sinaia, Romania (2006); 3rd Prize (2007) and 2nd Prize (2009) at the international competition for pianists, violinists and cellists „Young Musician“ in Tallinn; 1st Prize with a violin-duet at the competition „Talents for Europe“ in Slovakia (2009); the Grand Prix at the competition „Con Fantasia“ in Tallinn (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2014); and 2nd Prize at the Baltic String Competition in Vilnius (2018). 

Katariina Maria Kits is also the winner of the TV competition „Klassikatähed“ („Classical Stars“) 2014, organised by the Estonian Public Broadcasting.

Katariina Maria Kits has performed as a soloist with the Russian Chamber Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Novosibirsk Chamber Orchestra, Jerusalem Chamber Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian National Opera Orchestra, Vaasa City Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra, and Haapsalu City Orchestra among others.

Katariina Maria Kits performs on a violin made by Henricus Catenar in 1670, which is kindly on loan from the Estonian Foundation of Musical Instruments.
