Jaanus Karlson

Jaanus Karlson has studied accordion in Võru Music School. After graduation of high school, he headed to University College Birmingham to study cultural management. He has studied singing in Heino Eller Tartu Music School (Viviane Kallaste) and graduated from the same school in choral conducting under Lylian Kaiv. His composition teacher there was Katrin Aller. Karlson is a grantee of Richard Ritsing Prize (2014) and awarded the 3rd prize at the choral conducting composition held between three schools (Georg Ots Tallinn Music School, Heino Eller Tartu Music School, Tallinn Music High School) in 2016.

Jaanus Karlson has been a Project Manager of Tartu Folk Club (2013/2014) and Music Director of Tartumaa Dance Festival "Hingepuu". He is a choir master of Academic Women’s Choir of the university of Tartu and conductor of the corporation Filiae Patriae Female Choir. He has been singer, choir master and assistant conductor of E Stuudio Youth Choir since its foundation.

In his creation, Jaanus Karlson has focused primarly on choral music that has been mostly premiered by E Stuudio Youth Choir. For this choir, he has written also pop music arrangements. Besides he has composed solo work for tuba and piano pieces.
