Hando Põldmäe

Hando Põldmäe has studied trombone in Tallinn Music High School and Estonian Academy of Music from which he graduated in 1996 in the class of Heiki Kalaus. He continued his master’s studies in EAM, studying trombone with Heiki Kalaus and conducting under Ilmar Tõnisson. From 1998–1999, he improved his skills in the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with Sven-Erik Erikson. Since 2015, he is obtaining master’s degree in orchestra conducting in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he has studied composition under Tõnu Kõrvits as well. Põldmäe has participated in master courses of Neeme Järvi, Jorma Panula and Eri Klas.

Hando Põldmäe has worked as a tombone player in Estonian Radio Big Band, Tallinn Philharmonic Society and Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra. He has been the chief conductor of Virumaa Youth Orchestra, Virumaa Concert Orchestra and State Wind Orchestra of Orchestra Conductors, conductor of the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School Symphony Orchestra and Wind Orchestra. Currently, he conducts Police and Border Guard Orchestra, Harjumaa String Orchestra and Harjumaa Youth Symphony Orchestra. He has been conductor and general director of several youth song celebrations and general song celebrations.
