Gert-Ott Kuldpärg

Gert-Ott Kuldpärg started his saxophone studies in 1999 with Ants Oidekivi and continued in 2007 at the Tallinn Music High School under Prof. Olavi Kasemaa. In 2014, he graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in saxophone performance (BA).

He has participated successfully in several competitions: 2nd place (2009) and 1st place (2008 and 2011) at the State Three School Competition, 2nd place in the B Category at the international competition „21st Century Art in Klaipeda“ (2010), 2nd place at the Estonian Wind and Percussion Players' Competition (2012), 1st place at the competition „Renaissance“ for chamber ensembles in Klaipėda (together with cellist Theodor Sink, 2012).

Gert-Ott Kuldpärg has performed as a soloist in front of the joint orchestra of Georg Ots Tallinn Music School and Tallinn Music High School as well as Tallinn Music High School Symphony Orchestra. He has given first performances of several works by Estonian composers and has taken part in number of mastercourses with tutors like Marie-Bernadette Charrier, Alfonso Padilla-Lopez, Roberto Todini, Johan Van der Linden, Raphael Bagdasariyan and Nobuya Sugawa. Also he has been active in collectives like Bel-Etage Swing Orchestra and Estonian National Opera Symphony Orchestra. From 2015–2018, Kuldpärg worked in Akureyri (Iceland) as a saxophone teacher and director of wind orchestra and big band.

As a composer, he has been an autodidact. In 2013, he was chosen to participate at the competition „Estonia 100 in Sound and Picture“ dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. His music has been performed in Estonian composers’ concert series „Ludus Tonalis“ as well as in Denmark, Italy and Iceland. „Octet“ written for Eller Brass was performed in the international competition for ensembles „Cеребряные звуки“ in Russia in 2015.

Kuldpärg’s works are characterized by academic refinement, usage of folk tunes, satire, programmatic structure, soulfulness and polarity.
