Erkki-Sven Tüür’s „Insula deserta“ to be played in Glasgow


Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Insula deserta for string orchestra (1989) is in the program of Scottish Ensemble's concert titled as 20th-Century Perspectives: City Spaces & Strings on September 12 and 13. The event will be performed in Anderston Centre, where a newly created environment is built by visual artist Toby Paterson. In addition to Tüür, also music by other 20th century composers like Edward Elgar, Igor Stravinsky, Sergey Prokofiev, Iannis Xenakis and Benjamin Britten will be played. This concert is also a part of Scottish Ensemble’s celebration of Jonathan Morton’s 10th anniversary as leader and artistic director.

On September 13, Tüür’s music can be listened also in Germany – his Piano Sonata will be performed at the piano recital Musik des Nordens of Lydia Maria Bader in Bad Aibling culture center of senior center Novalis. Program consisting of Nordic music includes also works by Arvo Pärt, Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius and Carl Nielsen.
