Contemporary Music Festival AFEKT to be held with reduced programme

The International Contemporary Music Festival AFEKT – this year called miniAFEKT – will be held from October 29 to November 4 in Tallinn and Tartu with reduced programme.

The festival will be opened on October 29 at the Niguliste Museum-Concert Hall in a concert „AFEKT-PROLOGUE“ with Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Spiral" performed on historical synthesizers by Taavi Kerikmäe.

The opening concert of the festival will take place on October 30 at the Estonia Concert Hall. The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Estonian conductor residing in Denmark Kaisa Roose. The soloists are flute players Monika Mattiesen and Maarika Järvi alias duo MoMa. The programme includes works by Estonian composers Mart Siimer, Kristjan Kõrver, and Liisa Hirsch, alongside the music of Anton Webern, and two Danish composers Per Nørgård and Hans Abrahamsen.

The events at the Kai Art Center will feature the music by versatile musicians Liis Viira and Leonora Palu, Pauline Oliveros' work "Deep Listening" and joint exhibition "Leviathan: The Chapter of Paljassaare" by British artist Shezad Dawood together with Estonian scientists and artists.

The festival concerts in Tartu will feature the soloists of AFEKT and music by Ekke Västrik, James Tenney, Rebecca Saunders, Leonora Palu, Liis Viira, and Pauline Oliveros.

The mini-concerts across Tallinn and Tartu will be given by AFEKT soloists Kadri-Ann Sumera, Sten Heinoja, Rebekka Siimer, Liis Viira, Leonora Palu, Duo MoMa (Monika Mattiesen and Maarika Järvi) and others. The programme includes music by Erkki-Sven Tüür, Ekke Västrik, Galina Ustvolskaya, Liis Viira, Mart Siimer, and others.

The artistic director of the AFEKT festival is Monika Mattiesen.
