Birgitta musical theatre festival dedicated to Maestro Eri Klas



The international musical theatre festival Birgitta taking place in the historical ruins of Pirita (St. Bridget) Convent from August 9 to 18 will mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the festival, Maestro Eri Klas. The festival features the Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow as the main guest this year with the performances of „Faust“ by Charles Gounod and „Il Trovatore“ by Giuseppe Verdi.

The Birgitta Festival will be opened with the visual theatre performance „Planet Harmony“ which uniquely combines classical music with contemporary sounds and improvisation. The performance concentrates on the topics of digitalization, resources of the planet Earth, and love towards the living. The music is composed by Kristjan Randalu, Mick Pedaja, and Kristjan Järvi and performed by Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Sander Mölder (electronics). The actors are Rauno Kaibilainen, Andres Roosileht, Sandra Lange and Alden Marcus Mayfield. The stage director is Helen Rekkor, the dramaturg is Piret Jaaks, and the choreographer is Kati Kivitar.

The Birgitta festival programme also features opera and ballet gala, vocal ensemble Voca People and Ludwig Minkus’s ballet „Don Quijote“ by Tbilisi Z. Paliashvili Opera and Ballet State Theatre (Georgia).
