Arvo Pärt's award ceremony and concerts of EPCC at Estonian cultural festival in Paris

On Wednesday, November 2, the French Minister of Culture Frédéric Mitterrand, will give Arvo Pärt the highest national award of France – the Knight's degree of Order of the Legion of Honour. The Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest national award given by French President, which was founded in 1802 by Napoleon I Bonaparte. The award ceremony will take place at 19:30 at the French Ministry of Culture in Paris.

Apart of this ceremonial event, Estonian cultural festival 'Estonie tonique' will continue with two concerts of Estonian music on November 2 and 4.

On November 2, a concert with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and organist Christopher Bowers-Broadbent will be held in Oratoire du Louvre in Paris. The evening is dedicated to Arvo Pärt’s music and his works Veni creator, Anthem of St John the Baptist, The Deer’s Cry, Annum per annum, Magnificat, Trivium, Morning Star, Nunc Dimittis and Salve Regina will be performed. The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir is concducted by Paul Hillier.

On november 4, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir with Ensemble orchestral de Paris will perform at Art Center 104 (Le Centquatre). The concert program includes Arvo Pärt’s works Ein Wallfahrtslied, Summa, Adam's Lament (French premiere) and Da pacem Domine. French composer, improviser and organist Thierry Escaich will perform three of his own works: Erinnerung, Improvisations and Organ Concerto No 2. Ensemble Orchestral de Paris is conducted by Estonian conductor Olari Elts.

Estonian cultural festival 'Estonie tonique' started in Paris on October 7 and the festival lasts about two months. This festival is the most extensive cultural project of all times between Estonia and France. Festival’s program involves more than 200 Estonian performers and artists and more than 50 cultural events. The festival is organized by Estonian and French Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the French Institute and the Estonian embassy in Paris.
