Aare-Paul Lattik

Aare-Paul Lattik in one of the most outstanding Estonian organist, who, among his diversified repertoire, is dedicated especially to the interpretation of French organ music.

From 1988 to 1992, Aare-Paul Lattik studied organ with Urmas Taniloo and piano with Ruth Ernstson in Heino Eller Tartu Music School, having meanwhile studies at the faculty of filology of University of Tartu. Lattik continued organ studies in the organ class of Prof. Hugo Lepnurm and Andres Uibo in Estonian Academy of Music, where he obtained master degree in 1999. 1996-1999, Lattik improved his skills in Lille Conservatoire under Prof. Philippe Lefebvre, in Lyon Conservatoire under Prof. Louis Robilliard and under Prof. Aude Heurtematte, organist of Church of Saint-Gervais. At the same time he was engaged in master’s studies in faculty of musicology of Univeristy of Paris (Sorbonne). He has attended master classes of Jean Boyer, Olivier Latry, Francis Chapelet, Bernhard Haas and other renowned organists. Aare-Paul Lattik was awarded 3rd prize at the Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition (2005), he is laureate of Estonian young performers competition Con Brio (2000) and laureate of interpreter stipendium of Cultural Endowment of Estonia (2006).

From 2000 to 2008, Lattik was organist and musical director of Tallinn Swedish St. Michael’s Church. From 2006, he works as a pedagogue in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. He is the chairman of Estonian Organ Society from 1999 and belongs to the board of the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians since 2006. Lattik has published several articles on music in magazines Muusika, Teater. Muusika. Kino and others.

Aare-Paul Lattik has performed in every significant concert venue in Estonia, participated in many festivals in Estonia as well as abroad, including Portugal, France, Spain (El Órgano en el Camino, El Sonido vivo), Poland (organ festivals in Poznán, Wolsztyn and Lublin), Italy (organ festival of Lecce), Latvia (Ars Baltica). He has given concerts in Scandinavian countries and Russia as a soloist and together with different partners and ensembles (Vox Clamantis, Estonian Baroque Soloists, Villu Veski, Pirjo Levandi, Margarita Voites, Mart Sander, Rein Rannap and others).

French organ music has a special place in Lattik’s wide repertoire. Collaboration binds him also with Estonian composers – he as been the first performer of works of several Estonian composers (Mart Siimer, Ester Mägi, Alo Põldmäe, Aare Kruusimäe, Helmut Rosenvald, Anti Marguste), he has been written and dedicated organ pieces by Jaan Rääts (Piece Without Title No. 3), Mati Kuulberg (CV) and Rauno Remme (Voyage).

Aare-Paul Lattik has a solo CD “Estnische Orgellandschaft 2” (Eres, 1999) with Estonian music. Also he has recorded Estonian and French music with Helen Tammeste on the CD “Estnische Orgellandschaft 1” (Eres, 1999) and Arvo Pärt’s music on the CD “Annum per annum” (Arion, 2002).
