Festival „Mirror in the Mirror“ in Moscow



From September 25 to October 10, music festival „Zerkalo v zerkale“ („Mirror in the Mirror“) will take place in Moscow. Festival that was set up for the first time in 2015 in the honour of the 80th anniversary of Arvo Pärt, focuses this year on the overview of composers from Baltic countries sharing common aesthetics. The guest composer will be Galina Grigorjeva from Estonia.

Festival will be opened by ensemble Hortus Musicus and its artistic director Andres Mustonen on September 25 in the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Program consists of pieces by Arvo Pärt, Galina Grigorjeva, Peeter Vähi, Tõnis Kaumann, Alexander Knaifel  and Giya Kancheli. On September 29, pianist Tatiana Smelova will give a concert in The Znamenka Hall with the music of Urmas Sisask (Starry Sky Cycle No. 1 „Northern Sky“) and César Franck.

Festival culminates with the Gala Concert on October 1 in the Great Hall of the Conservatory, where Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta, Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory, Tula State Choir, Nadezhda Tokareva (violin) and Denis Golubev (oboe) under the baton of Andres Mustonen will appear on the stage. Program includes only Estonian music: Arvo Pärt’s „7 Magnificat-Antiphons“, „Credo“ and „Für Lennart in memoriam“, Galina Grigorjeva’s „Song on the Occasion of Czarina Yevdokia Taking the Veil“ and „Nox vitae“, and Peeter Vähi’s „Concerto of Light and Shadow“ and „Forty-Two“. Evening concert in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul will bring the Russian premiere of Arvo Pärt’s „Passio“ to the audience. Festival concerts will feature also musicians like Iris Oja (alto), Leonora Palu (flute), Kristi Mühling (kannel), Diana Liiv (piano), String Quartet Prezioso and many others.

Festival is organized by Moscow State Conservatory, Estonian Embassy in the Russian Federation, Foundation for Development of Creative Initiatives, Agency proMotion, Studio of Classical Music, MTÜ Kammermuusikud and Estonian Record Productions.
