Marje Sink 100

On December 16 at 6 pm, memorial concert of composer Marje Sink will take place in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre chamber hall. Pianist Mihkel Poll, baritone Ott Indermitte with Tiiu Jürma on piano perform Marje Sink’s solo songs and piano pieces. Concert will take place in cooperation with NPO Crescendo.

In the same day at 5.30 pm, exhibition of Marje Sink’s work and family will be opend in EAMT café gallery. Exhibition’s curator is Erkki Juhandi, designer is Ülar Linnuste. Exposition will be open till February 2011.

Marje Sink (1910–1979) graduated from Tallinn Conservatory in composition under Artur Kapp in 1938 and worked as a music pedagogue and choral conductor. The main part of her oeuvre is formed by sacred vocal music – nearly 1000 songs for solo voice, ensemble and choir and oratorio After the Golgotha. Additionally Estonian Rhapsody for symphony orchestra and numerous pieces for violin and piano belong to her work list. With her songs, CDs “El silencio” (Estonian Radio, 2002) and “Christmas Songs” (Kelam, 2005) have been released. In 2005, annual Marje and Kuldar Sink Award for a young singer was established.
