Kai Ratassepp

The pianist Kai Ratassepp is a valued chamber musician both with classical and contemporary music interpretations. The piano duo Kai Ratassepp & Mati Mikalai has gained a number of official acknowledgements.

In 1988, Kai Ratassepp graduated Tallinn Music High School with Ruuta Taras and Lilian Semper and continued her piano studies in Estonian Academy of Music with Lilian Semper and Peep Lassmann. In 2007, Ratassepp acquired a PhD degree in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, again with Professor Peep Lassmann. She has also participated in master courses of Andrei Gavrilov, Ralf Gothon and Arbo Valdma.

Kai Ratassepp has won prizes at several national and international piano festivals in Belgrad (1990), Vilnius (1991) and Tallinn (1994, 1996). She has given solo concerts and performed with chamber ensembles in Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Germany, former Yugoslavia and Russia. The most relevant and renowned of her chamber ensembles is piano duo with Mati Mikalai. Other important ensemble partners have been for example saxophonist Virgo Veldi and clarinetist Madis Kari.

Kai Ratassepp works as a faculty member in Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and Tallinn Music High School.
