Gunnar Männik

February 1, 1959 Tartu

Gunnar Männik is a sports doctor by profession. He has graduated from the University of Tartu Faculty of Physical Culture (1982) and Sports Medicine Department of Faculty of Medicine (1994). He has doctor's degree in biology (1984). In 1967, he started his piano lessons in Vändra Children’s Music School, graduating in 1974. In 2009, he started to take private composition lessons from composer Tõnu Kõrvits, professor of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

So far, Gunnar Männik has been focused mainly on writing piano music. His debut piano album "The Album of Birds" for piano students was released in 2011. The collection "Journeys" comprises of 27 pieces portraying his voyage through life strongly inspired by sport. 18 pieces from the collection are recorded on the album with the same name.
