Eduard Tamm

Composer, French horn player and composer Eduard Tamm was a long-time leader and organizer of music life of Võru town and promoter of Estonian wind music.

Eduard Tamm studied violin and trumpet in Narva Music School. In 1905, he graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatoire with golden medal where he studied French horn in the class of Jaan Tamm. He played Russian imperial court chapel (1903–1917), was a musical director of the Petrograd Estonian Temperance Society (1913–1917) and chapel master of the Petrograd Red Militia Orchestra (1917–1920).

Back in Estonia, Tamm worked as an orchestra player of Theatre Estonia (1920–1923), conductor of Võru garrison orchestra (1923–1941) and musical director of Theatre Kannel (1927–1940). As the leading figure of town of Võru, he founded symphony orchestra and Võru Symphonic Music Society, conducted the orchestra and several choirs.

Eduard Tamm has written over 80 works, mainly music for wind orchestras, as well as solo and choir songs, and music for dramas.
