Rein Ploom

Member of the Estonian Composers' Union since 1960

Rein Ploom studied music theory in Petrograd Conservatoire as an external student (1914–1917), later flute as a private student of Anton Schutinski (from 1917) and composition with Mihkel Lüdig and Adolf Vedro.

In addition to composing music, he was active as a conductor (he conducted in general song celebrations and was assistant conductor of Estonian SSR Philharmony Wind Orchestra 1945–1953),orchestra member (he played cornet, flute, clarinet and saxophone) as well as an arranger.

In Rein Ploom’s oeuvre, there are prevalently works for wind orchestra, but also solo and children’s songs and chamber music.
