10th Estonian Chamber Choir Festival

April 4-5, Estonian Chamber Choir Festival organised by Estonian Chamber Choirs Union took place in Põltsamaa. The aim of this biannual festival is to preserve and promote choral singing tradition and inspire chamber choirs’ activity. The centre of the festival is choir competition that is held in five categories and judged by 5-member international jury. Paul Tomaszowsky (Hunagry), Hirvo Surva, Ants Üleoja, Tauno Aints and Leelo Talvik belonged to jury this year.

22 choirs all over Estonia participated in the 10th Estonian Chamber Choir Festival. Obligatory pieces for the competition were by Gustav Ernesaks, Rudolf Tobias and Tuudur Vettik. The winners of four categories were Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu, Viljandimaa Chamber Choir, EBS Chamber Choir and Mixed choir of Tallinn Secondary Science School. Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu (conductor Triin Koch) was also awarded the Grand Prix.
